Tennessee Soybean Promotion Board joins Soy Transportation Coalition

The Soy Transportation Coalition (STC) is pleased to announce the addition of the Tennessee Soybean Promotion Board as a member organization. Tennessee becomes the tenth state soybean board to join the STC.

The Tennessee Soybean Promotion Board decided to join the STC at their January 19 meeting. The state organization will be designating a farmer representative to serve on the STC board by the STC’s next meeting on March 2.

“The farmer directors of the Tennessee Soybean Promotion Board understand the importance of transportation to the profitability of agriculture,” explains Karl Forsbach, a soybean farmer from Savannah, Tenn., and Chairman of the Tennessee Soybean Promotion Board.  “We look forward to working with the Soy Transportation Coalition to ensure we have an infrastructure that ensures the production of Tennessee soybean farmers can efficiently and effectively be matched with the demands of a growing and hungry world.”

Ed Ulch, a soybean producer from Solon, Iowa, and Chairman of the STC, says, “The board of directors of the Soy Transportation Coalition welcomes the Tennessee Soybean Promotion Board as member organization.  Given that approximately half of the annual U.S. soybean crop is exported to customers around the world, farmers have a growing awareness that transportation is a key to the immediate and long term health of the soybean industry.  So much depends on having quality roads, bridges, railroads, interior waterways and ports.  Having Tennessee’s involvement in the Soy Transportation Coalition will further strengthen our efforts and ensure that farmer interests in infrastructure continue to be promoted.”

The Soy Transportation Coalition is comprised of thirteen state soybean boards, the American Soybean Association, and the United Soybean Board. The National Grain and Feed Association and the National Oilseed Processors Association serve as ex-officio members of the organization.
