ALL to build US $453 million intermodal terminal in Mato Grosso, Brazil

Brazilian railway operator América Latina Logística (ALL) will start construction this year on a 730 million-real (US $453 million) intermodal terminal in Brazil's midwestern state of Mato Grosso.

Located in the city of Rondonópolis, the complex will have capacity to handle 15Mt/y and may reach 30Mt/y on strong demand, the company said in a release.

Construction is scheduled to start later this year, once the necessary licenses are obtained. Work is expected to wrap by the second half of 2012, when ALL's new railroad from Rondonópolis is due to open.

Expected to handle demand for the next 25 years, the complex will be focused on transporting grains, fuel, fertilizers, cotton, refrigerated products and timber, among others.

Around 30 companies are expected to set up facilities at the terminal, which will be the largest of its kind in Brazil, covering 400 hectares, according to the release.

ALL is Latin America's largest independent logistics company, operating in Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Uruguay. It owns 21,300 kilometers of rail tracks, 1,095 locomotives, 31,650 railcars, 700 highway vehicles, several distribution centers and warehousing facilities.
