Soy Transportation Coalition and Panama Canal Authority extend partnership

The Soy Transportation Coalition and the Panama Canal Authority recently extended the memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the two organizations. The agreement, signed by Mike Bellar, chairman of the Soy Transportation Coalition (STC), and Jorge L. Quijano, CEO of the Panama Canal Authority, extends the partnership between the two organizations to perform joint promotional events and exchange information in the effort to raise awareness of the Panama Canal's role as a key link in the agricultural supply chain.

Flooding continues to disrupt barge traffic in U.S.

Severe storms and torrential rains have been relentless across the Great Plains for the past two weeks. Flooding reached major or record levels along the Arkansas River around the start of Memorial Day weekend, and it shows no signs of letting up any time soon. Farmers in the Midwest and ports on the Gulf Coast have been dealing with flooding since mid- to late March. FreightWaves reported on the effects of the flooding on rail lines and the oil markets. The extreme weather is also taking a toll on barges that carry hundreds of thousands of tons of grains - mainly corn, soybeans and wheat - to ports across the country.
