STC Weighs in on Food vs. Fuel Debate

The Soy Transportation Coalition (STC) recently circulated an editorial addressing, in part, the food vs. fuel debate and the widespread criticism directed at U.S. agriculture. The editorial, printed in numerous publications throughout the country, argues that the increase in food prices is largely the result of an inefficient distribution system.

“Every day brings a new criticism of our nation’s biofuels and agricultural policies,” explains Mike Steenhoek, executive director of the Soy Transportation Coalition. “This increased attention is an opportunity to highlight how our transportation challenges need to bear a degree of responsibility for the problems American consumers are facing.” A sampling of the articles can be viewed at The Des Moines Register and Farm and Ranch Guide.

The Soy Transportation Coalition is comprised of seven state soybean boards, the American Soybean Association, and the United Soybean Board. The National Grain and Feed Association and the National Oilseed Processors Association serve as ex-officio members of the organization.
